What are The Indications and Contraindications of Knee CPM(Continous Passive Motion)?


KNEE CONTINUOUS PASSIVE MOTION
Knee CPM (continuous passive motion) allows knee movement in controlled range of motion (ROM) to prevent joint stiffness and development of scar tissue. Its helps in reducing pain, swelling and regaining post operative ROM. Moreover, it was found to provide psychological well-being to the patient using CPM by many researchers.

Indications:
·         Knee replacement surgery
·         Fractures (patellar, tibial plateau, femoral)
·         Ligament repair (eg. Anterior cruciate ligament repair)
·         Arthroscopic surgery (meniscectomies and patellectomies)
·         Post Carticel (autologous cultured condrocytes) procedures
·         Arthrolysis

Contraindications
·         Unstable fractures
·         Uncontrolled infections
·         Spastic paralysis
